Diagnostic Imaging

High-quality Imaging Services, Expert Diagnosticians and Simple Scheduling

Whether it’s a routine X-ray or a complex MRI, you can trust that you will receive the highest quality imaging services at Yuma Hospital & Clinics. With American College of Radiology (ACR) Accreditation in Mammography and CT Scans, we take pride in our patient care and your patient experience – by going above and beyond expectations to answer your questions and ensure your comfort.

As part of our mission, we are dedicated to enhancing the health of all the individuals we serve and providing care that exceeds industry standards in quality and safety. Our goal is to provide all necessary diagnostic imaging and image-guided treatments, so our patients do not have to travel outside our area.

Our Radiology department offers multimodality technologists who are skilled and experienced with many diagnostic imaging technologies, which translates to optimal availability for patient scheduling and quick scheduling turnaround. Our local technologists are here to make you feel at home – because you are. It’s all part of the Yuma Experience.

Ease of scheduling is an important aspect of the Yuma Experience, and our diagnostic imaging is just one more example of how we streamline your patient experience wherever we can:

  • X-rays do not require an appointment and are on a walk-in basis Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Screening mammograms are self-referral and can be scheduled simply by calling (970) 848-5405 and choosing the Radiology option on the phone tree.
  • All other diagnostic exams require a provider order. Once that order is placed and has received insurance authorization, your provider will contact you for scheduling.
  • Please note that CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound and DEXA (bone density) scans require preauthorization from insurance. Once authorized, we will contact you to schedule your exam.

While most diagnostic procedures require weekday appointments, you can count on 24/7 access to our diagnostic imaging services through our Emergency Department.

Diagnostic imaging services at Yuma Hospital & Clinics include:

3D Mammography: Early detection saves lives, and women in our area can easily access the latest technology for breast cancer screenings without traveling long distances. As one of the first facilities to have this top-of-the-line technology and equipment in Northeast Colorado, we offer 3D Mammography, also known as Digital Breast Tomography. This diagnostic breast imaging tool improves early detection of breast cancer in men and women. Patients 40 and older do not need a written order from a health care provider for mammograms.

Bone Density DEXA Scans: We have an in-house Bone Densitometry Scanner available Monday-Friday. The results are used to determine risk for fractures as well as to determine stage of osteoporosis. DEXA scans are quick (15-20 minutes) and easy. If you have not had a DEXA scan, ask your doctor if you would be a candidate for the exam. A doctor’s order and preauthorization with your insurance are both required.

MRI: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a valuable diagnostic test that allows radiologists to see areas of the body which cannot be seen using conventional x-rays. MRI scans are offered for both inpatient and outpatient care Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., each week. A provider’s order and preauthorization are required.

Diagnostic Digital X-ray: We provide a full range of diagnostic x-ray procedures utilizing the latest digital technology for inpatient and outpatient care. Digital Radiography uses much less radiation compared to conventional and CR Radiography and is less time consuming. Portable fluoroscopy and X-ray equipment are used during surgical procedures and are available for use in our emergency and surgery departments. With a provider’s order, X-rays are available on a walk-in basis weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Computed Tomography (CT Scan): We use a Toshiba Aquilion 80 slice scanner. This top-of-the-line CT scanner allows us to simultaneously capture multiple millimeter-thin images of a patient’s anatomy within seconds. This system provides exceptionally high-resolution images that help our physicians diagnose patients more accurately. Our scanner is equipped with radiation-reduction technology to reduce your radiation exposure by 70 percent.

Ultrasound (including Mobile Echocardiogram): We use top-of-the-line ultrasound equipment operated by only highly trained, credentialed technologists. Ultrasound technology has a wide variety of medical imaging uses, from breast exams to echocardiograms. We conduct echocardiograms twice a month on Mondays and all other ultrasounds Monday through Friday.
