We are committed to providing financial assistance to qualified patients and working with you to find affordable payment solutions. No one will be denied emergency medical care based on their inability to pay.
We treat all patients with dignity and respect from registration through billing. We do not discriminate in the determination of financial assistance eligibility on the basis of race, color, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, marital status, creed, age, sex, disability, or immigration status.
Who Qualifies for Financial Assistance?
Free Care (100% Discount)
Patients with household income at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPG) may qualify for free care for emergency and medically necessary services.
For reference: 250% FPG for a family of four is approximately $80,000 per year.
Discounted Care
Patients with household income between 251% – 400% of FPG may qualify for sliding scale discounts based on income and family size.

Colorado Hospital Discounted Care Law
Yuma Hospital & Clinics is in full compliance with Colorado’s Hospital Discounted Care Law (Senate Bill 24-116). Under this law:
- All uninsured patients are automatically screened for financial assistance
- Insured patients may request to be screened
- Payment plans are limited to 4% of monthly household income for hospital services and 2% for physician services
- 36-month maximum: After 36 payments, any remaining balance is forgiven
- No residency requirements: You do not need to be a Colorado resident to qualify
How to Apply for Financial Assistance

- Receive determination within 14 business days

- Social Security cards (if applicable)
Income Documentation:
- Pay stubs for the most recent 4 weeks
- Most recent tax return (W-2, 1099, or complete tax filing)
- Unemployment benefits statement
- Social Security/disability benefits statement
- Self-employment profit/loss statement or business ledger
Asset Documentation:
- Bank statements for all checking and savings accounts (most recent 2 months)
- Investment account statements
Additional Information (if applicable):
- Insurance cards and explanation of benefits
- Divorce decree or child support documentation
- Documentation of extraordinary expenses (medical bills, etc.)

Amounts Generally Billed (AGB)
Patients eligible for financial assistance will not be charged more for emergency or other medically necessary care than the amounts generally billed to insured patients. Appeals Process
If you disagree with a financial assistance determination, you have the right to appeal:
- Submit your appeal in writing within 30 days of receiving your determination
- Contact methods: Mail, email, or call (970) 848-4815
- Review process: We will acknowledge receipt within 3 business days and provide a redetermination within 15 calendar days

Q: Do I need to be a Colorado resident to qualify?
A: No, our Financial Assistance Program has no residency requirements.
Q: What if I have insurance?
A: Insured patients may still qualify for assistance with copays, deductibles, and out-of-network charges. You must request to be screened.
Q: How long does the approval last?
A: Financial assistance determinations are generally valid for one year or until your financial circumstances change significantly.
Q: What happens if I’m already in collections?
A: Contact our Financial Counselor immediately. We work with collection agencies and can halt collection activities if you qualify for assistance.
Q: Can I apply for assistance after I’ve already been billed?
A: Yes, you can apply for financial assistance up to 240 days after receiving your first billing statement.
