Interpreter Services for Equitable,
Safe, and Compassionate Care
Bridging Language Barriers to Build Trust and Improve Health Outcomes
Why Interpreter Services Matter
Certified medical interpreters are more than just bilingual individuals—they are trained professionals who ensure medical information is conveyed accurately and sensitively. Their presence enhances care quality, promotes patient safety, and supports health equity, especially for individuals with limited English proficiency.
The Value of Professional Medical Interpretation
- Ensures clear and accurate communication during diagnosis, treatment, and discharge.
- Reduces medical errors and misunderstandings.
- Builds trust between patients and care teams.
- Reinforces our commitment to equitable care for all, regardless of language background.
Methods of Interpretation We Offer
- In-Person Interpretation: A certified interpreter is physically present during the encounter.
- Video Remote Interpreting (VRI): Real-time interpretation via secure video connection.
- Telephonic Interpretation: Interpreter support is provided via phone.
How We Deliver Interpreter Services
- Standardized Scheduling: We use a centralized system to ensure interpreter coverage. In-person interpretation is prioritized, with 99% coverage during clinic hours of operation.
- Innovative Tools: We’ve introduced two VRI devices, called WILMA (Wireless Internet Language Media Assistant), available at both our Yuma and Akron locations.
- Accessible Materials: All patient-facing materials and handouts are printed with back-to-back messaging in dual languages to improve understanding and comfort.
- Bilingual Staff Development: We are actively increasing the number of trained bilingual nursing staff through strategic hiring practices and alignment with HR standards.
